Stranger Things Narrative

Activity 3.10 - Stranger Things

  1. 1. There are many story arcs in Stranger Things. Each season there are different groups of characters that join to help further the plot and make story arcs. For example, in season 4 of the show there were 3 story arcs. They are very evident since they are all trying to do the same thing. The first one is Max, Dustin, Lucas, Eddie, Erica, Steve, Nancy, and Robin. They are trying to help Max with her episodes, and they go to the upside down. Next is Mike, Eleven, Jonathan, Will, and Argyle. They are in California trying to go back to Hawkins to save their friends. They are met also with circumstances that block them. And the last arc is with Joyce, Hopper, and Murray. They are in Russia trying to save Hopper and kill the Demogorgon and shut down the prison for good.

  1. 2. Yes, each story follows Todorov’s narrative theory. They each have an equilibrium, disequilibrium, and a new equilibrium. Throughout each season, there is a problem or an issue at hand, they are figuring out how to solve it, and then finally they figure it out and save themselves and the others.

  1. 3.  Each story arc feeds into the main narrative arc since they each want to solve the same thing. Destroy the Upside Down and help Eleven. Eleven is the main character in Stranger Things and this all revolves around her and her friends. Each season feeds into the narrative since there is a different issue at hand but still need to try and solve the same issue.
