You Cont.
Activity 3.13
1. In the show, You, the hero and the villain are Joe Goldberg. This is because he starts off as a hero in women’s lives and helps them and gets close to them and their lives. But then he turns into the villain when they don't give him what he wants, and he kills them. Since the narrative of You is linear there are different character types in each season. In season 2 Love Quinn is the helper since they help each other in their murders. The rest of Propp’s character types aren't present in the plotline of You.
2. The limiting factors found in Propp’s theory in You are that not all character types are in the show and some characters like Joe are multiple character types since it is a different type of show. More of seeing the POV of “the devil”. Joe does not fit in the mold since he is both the hero and villain. He is helping the women with whatever he can find but also murdering them. This makes the viewer feel sympathy for Joe and want him to succeed since he is the protagonist and antagonist. The show signifies a new perspective of thriller since again gives the point of view of the villain and this gives off the emotion of pity for the anti-hero, Joe.
