Week 1 Day 3

                                             Project Beginning Cont. Week 1 Day 3

Today is day three of the eight week project for AICE Media Studies. On this post I will be talking about the characters in our movie opening. Their personalities, stereotypes, clothes, and reason to be included in this. The first character is Sloan's. Sloan's character is very outgoing, funny, caring, and smart. Her name is Grace. My character's name is Serena. She is more reserved, quiet, and careless. Our characters have been best friends since they were 7 years old and have been inseparable since. Once high school hit they started trying to find themselves and this created their different personalities. They are still close but maybe their different wants in life will cause a break. Sloan's character fits the stereotype of the smart girl. She cares about school and her achievements. She wants to get into a good school and pursue a career. She never misses a due date and is always clean and uptight. My character fits the loner stereotype. My character is not interested in school or anything or the sort. She likes to party and not listen to authority. She dresses in dark colors and not as "clean" as Grace. Serena has taken the complete opposite path than Grace. Overall she is the total opposite of Sloan's character. These stereotypes are important to our coming of age film because they show the two paths most teens are forced to choose from. A lot of teenagers lean towards drugs and alcohol since they want to seem grown and cool to their friends. But others choose against it and focus on other things in life, like school and getting into a good college. The clothes will show this too since they are a key component to films. Sloan will be wearing more bright and put together clothes like blue to show happiness and cleanliness. While mine will wear sweatpants and hoodies mostly since she doesn't care about her appearance. The colors will be black and grey showing a grudge to her and darkness. These will add to the opening since it will show the reality of teenagers of this day and age. It helps that me and my group are in high school and get to see this in real life everyday at school and out. Everyday we see things at school or when we are with friends that seems weird and wrong. 14-18 year old's are acting grown when they are just kids. The reason I have chosen this plotline and the characters is to show the reality of being a teenager in 2024.  It is a hard path to walk and you are given opportunities, some bad some good. But in the end its up to you to choose the correct one. This is also a coming of age film since we are portraying characters finding their way through a phase in their lives. It has an initial problem that needs to be solved. The problem that the characters are facing will help them find themselves. Every year there is something new that teenagers want to do, it started with smoking and now it has come to doing drugs. Overall, today my group and I discussed how the characters should look like, dress like, talk like, and act like. I used our prior knowledge of coming of age films to help us come up with more ideas. I also created a mood board for both Grace and Serena. Here they are.
