Week 6 Day 19
Editing - Day 19
Today is day 19. There is only 2 weeks left of this project before I have to start working very hard to study for the exam. Which of course stresses everyone out, but I am optimistic that I can handle it and we did a great job on everything. Today I continued editing. In my opinion the editing is the the most time consuming part of the project. Planning was easy and the filming didn't take much time since I got it down pretty quickly. But the editing is taking us the most amount of time. My group and I have to agree on what scenes to put in and which to not keep in the opening. Also, I have to figure out what music and sound effects fit with the specific scene playing. This all is very tedious work that requires extra time and attention. So, I have to manage my time very wisely so I don't fall behind. Today I continued helping Sloan with editing and giving her ideas of what she should do to shorten it because when we added all the clips it was 3 minutes! We got it down to 2:20 thankfully. I know that the recommended amount is 2 minutes but if we take out anything else the plot wont make sense! The types of cuts I am utilizing when editing is straight cuts, fade ins, fade outs, ellipses, and action matches. These I added because they would make the most of our film and make it interesting! As of effects, I am adding in sound effects of a school bell to signify the end of school. Maybe a horn and some texting sounds. This is all to make the shot more in the moment to the audience. Like they are in the scene with the character. But that is what I helped with today, giving my opinions on the clip shortening and I also looked in the textbook for transitions we could add and music to match the vibe of our initial thought didn't fit. This is important because it would be weird to hear very happy and ambient music during my scenes when my character is supposed to be very angry and edgy. I worked hard on reviewing playlists, YouTube videos, and other websites to reach for the perfect sound effects, music, etc. I am hopeful that the choices we have made are going to make the film way better than it already is. I had to find a school bell ringing to show that our characters are now at school. I had to also find background noise like bird chirping and wind gusts to make it as realistic as possible. I would say our project is about half way editing. We plan on meeting up all three of us to do the final editing and to watch it. But overall, our project is going very well and I think we are almost done editing.
