Week 8 Day 30
Creation of CCR 2 and 4
Today is day 30.
I made a word document to outline and describe my ideas for #2 and here is that, this was done in the format of a vlog.
“How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?”
Explain how you chose your genre, based upon survey responses- How I chose the genre of coming of age for the product is I started asking my friends about their favorite movies and a lot of them were coming of age films. I decided since people love this type of movie and genre, I would make my product since it would target my special audience of teenagers and it would make it more interesting for the audience since it is what they love. After that I also wanted to distribute a survey to other friends to ask them what their opinion is. This was formed on Google forms and sent out through email and outlook. The results concluded that people’s most favorite movies were in the coming-of-age genre. Which made me and my group more confident in our choice of the genre. I know that some of my favorite movies are The perks of being a wallflower and The Florida project which fall in the coming-of-age genre. This concluded that I would be making a coming-of-age film.
Explain evolution of your survey- The survey started out as just an idea between my group members and me. Then as we asked some of our friends' questions that would give us intel on their preferences, which then gave the idea of just doing a survey and sending it out to other people and friends. This then gave us the results we needed.
Share some of the main questions- The main questions from the survey included, how old the recipient was, their favorite movie genre, how often they watch movies, and what their favorite film is. The results drew the conclusion that the recipients were 13-18 years old, which falls into the teenager age group, and they liked coming of age films most. We did this to get more insight into the lives of other teenagers and what they wanted to see from us.
Research on audience theories and try to relate your product with them especially hypodermic needle theory- Most teenagers either like horror or coming of age films. I like coming of age a lot because they can relate to a specific character. A character battling depression and mental health issues like Charlie from the Perks of Being a Wallflower or they can relate to the friendship problems the characters are going through like in the movie Good Boys. The characters in the film try to find themselves and to solve their issues connected with teenage audiences because we also are doing this. Every day we are trying to overcome something and getting proper representation in the films we watch is comforting. The hypodermic needle theory is used in our film because we show the 2 lives of teenagers. One where they work hard to do well in school and other to party and do stupid things outside of school. This triggers something in the teenage audience to see in film because they correlate with the actions being taken and feel represented. This causes them to get attached to characters and find things in them that they also do or want.
Explain your plans to distribute your product to targeted audience- How I plan to distribute my product to the targeted teenage audience is for started to start talking about it with friends and tell them to tell others about it too. Then this will cause people to be talking about the product and be excited to see what it is about. Then I could hang up posters like for plays around the school giving a little bit about the product and so then people will be interested and post about it on social media like Instagram, Tik Tok, and Snapchat. This will increase the popularity of the product. Then after this I could put ads in newspaper or tv commercials for and even larger audience of teenagers to want to see this film. But for them to see the product, they must go to a movie theatre. I would talk to movie theater managers and corporation and make deals with them to broadcast my products so others can see this too, I would try and collaborate with companies like Netflix, Hulu, Disney plus and try to get the product on their platform too. This will give many options for the targeted audience to view and watch the opening. This would also be how I would try and maximize circulation of my product to the audience.
Overall, my product engages with the teenage audience because of many reasons. One being that it shows real life problems that most teenagers face, this being friendship. Second, most teens like coming-of-age films, so this gives us the upper hand and a better chance of the product having positive feedback. Lastly, it has been talked about and brought about by a variety of methods to get the audience to go and watch the film. It would be distributed in real media text by talking to movie theaters and their teams to broadcast this film and to other companies like Netflix to put this on their platform for viewers all around the world that want to rewatch it without going to a movie theater. This is all how my product engages with audiences and how it would be distributed as a real media text!
How I answered this question is by doing a vlog on YouTube and uploading that. I filmed myself answering questions and put pop up images, sound effects, music, and text on the screen. This took me a whole 3 hours!
Here it is for CCR 4, I did a PowerPoint presentation and just recorded a voice over on the PowerPoint. These both are on my YouTube.
“How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware, and online-in this project?”
Explain how different types of tools and technologies helped you throughout this project- Some different types of tools and technologies I used included my phone, a MacBook Pro, Adobe, filming equipment, YouTube, and Spotify. These all helped me get the best final product for my project. My phone helped shoot scenes and keep them safe in an album. My phone helped with giving me many different types of modes to use when filming like cinematic mode, grids, and time lapse mode. These all helped by giving me the best version of a scene. The MacBook Pro helped with getting all the files uploaded from the phone to the computer and making sure they get on to Adobe. The MacBook helped with making the uploading easier than taking it from a flash drive. I could just easily make an album or airdrop the videos to the computer. Adobe helped with editing all the clips together and adding in effects, transitions, and sound. This all help me get the best opening. The filming equipment helped me with shooting scenes to make them as still as can be with the Steadicam and to make sure we pick up every work with the microphones. To help illuminate the scenes with a light. Finally, YouTube and Spotify helped me choose music and sound and by giving me tutorials on how to fix problems in adobe.
Explain the usefulness of YouTube tutorials and internet research- YouTube tutorials were a life saver. I had never used Adobe before until this school year, so YouTube came in handy when I didn't know how to add sound, block out background noise, or add text. It helped with a lot of other things but those were the main ones. I also used the internet to research movie scenes to help me see how a shot was films so my group and I could replicate it. These both help immensely with the entire process of making the opening.
How did you learn to use hacks and DIY throughout this project- Some hacks and DIY projects I took on during the production of the project were when we had to film the scene of me waking up late, there was way too much light coming in from my winddowns. No matter how tighter I closed them it was too bright. I had to put a blanket over the curtains and pillows to block the light from escaping. This made the scene look like it was early morning than late afternoon. Another hack I used was to set a timer for the scene where Grace was waking up so it would sound like an alarm, and it would make it easier to put in the alarm clock sound effect in Adobe when editing since we had the perfect time stamp.
Explain your evolution of photography from cell phones camera to advanced options- I used all the modes when filming on my phone to bet the best product, this included cinematic mode, time lapse, and the grid option. I used cinematic mode to focus the audience/ camera on one specific object or character. I used the grid option to help me find the perfect frame for the shot and help me with the composition. The time lapse helped me film the sunrise, so I didn't have to sit there for hours. I put the time lapse on and left it in my backyard for about 30 minutes and got the perfect product. I didn't have to edit a 1 hour long shot but instead it was already done.
Explain the problems and technical limitations you faced throughout this project and how did you fix them- Some problems I faced were when it was time for editing, Adobe loved to crash on me and my group or was just honestly hard to navigate. I had to look up how to find certain things on Google for Adobe. I also faced the problem of the windy background when I was filming. This made it hard because you could not hear anything the characters were saying. Thankfully, I just put it in adobe and cut out any background noise and just left the dialogue.
Explain how did you explore different ways to upload and share your final product with the targeted audience as well as the general audience- When it was time to upload our product Sloan put it into an MP3 format and sent it to us through email. I then put it onto my YouTube channel and blogger. This already made it distributed to the general audience since anyone could watch it off YouTube. How I would share it to the targeted audience of teenagers is that I would post it on social media like Instagram, Snapchat, and Tik Tok. Which would get the views of teenagers since they ae the ones on social media. I would also host a movie night with my friends so they could watch it and give their thought to it.
Overall, I feel like my abilities with technologies and software have grown and I am confident that I know what I am doing
